Nous passons la semaine à Kuala Lumpur avant de nous envoler vers Londres samedi. Nous sommes arrivés dimanche matin, après une nuit passée dans le train.
Dimanche, nous allons au cinéma, nous avons eu des invitations par l’Alliance Française de Penang pour le Festival d’Art Français.
Nous choisissons « les Liens du Sang » avec Guillaume Canet et François Cluzet. C’était super. Un policier qui se déroule dans les années 70. C’est l’histoire d’une rivalité entre deux frères, l’un est flic, l’autre gangster.
Le dimanche soir, nous trouvons un petit couscous pas trop cher, Day Yann n’a jamais gouté. Nous décidons d’y manger, le cuisinier est marocain, il devrait être bon, mais il est un peu tôt, nous nous baladons d’abord dans Kuala Lumpur.
Alors que nous nous installons au restaurant, je reçois un coup de téléphone de mon père. Ma grand mère vient de décéder. Je suis sous le choc, je devais la revoir dans 10 jours, et elle se faisait une joie de cette rencontre. Nous ne mangerons pas de couscous…
Le lendemain matin, j’ai rendez vous à l’Ambassade de Chine pour mon visa. J’ai un meeting de Couchsurfing Nomadic Ambassadors à Shanghai le 22 juillet, nous en profiterons pour voir l’éclipse de soleil, il parait que c’est une des plus longues de toute l’histoire, plus de 6 minutes et 30 secondes. J’en profiterai aussi pour passer un mois là-bas et visiter un petit bout de ce pays gigantesque. Si tout va bien je devrais reprendre l’avion de Macao, c’est moins cher, et je me demande si je ne vais pas passer aussi 1 semaine à Yangshuo, j’ai une proposition pour du bénévolat dans une école, pour donner des cours d’anglais. Il parait que cette région est magnifique.
Nous passons la journée dans un de ces immenses centres commerciaux de Kuala Lumpur, KLCC, sous les tours Petronas, en attendant que la sœur de Day Yann finisse son travail pour nous raccompagner.
La fin de la semaine sera plus intéressante. Mercredi, nous avons rendez vous avec d’autres Couch Surfers de Kuala Lumpur photographes, pour une sortie photos dans les rue de la capitale.
Et jeudi, je récupère mon visa chinois, s’ils daignent me le donner, j’ai lu qu’il y avait de nouveaux problèmes entre la France et la Chine… Le Maire de Paris voudrait faire du Dalai Lama un citoyen d’honneur de la ville de Paris, sans que celui-ci n’ai rien demandé et, bien entendu, le gouvernement chinois n’apprécie pas.

Back in Kuala Lumpur
We spend the week in Kuala Lumpur before we fly to London on Saturday. We arrived Sunday morning after a night spent in the train.
Sunday, we are going to the theater, we had invitations from the Alliance Française of Penang for the French Art Festival.
We choose "Rivals" with Guillaume Canet and François Cluzet. It was great. A thriller, action takes place in the 70’s. It is the story of a rivalry between two brothers, one a cop, another
gangster.
On Sunday evening, we find a small couscous restaurant not too expensive, Day Yann never tasted. We decide to eat there, the chef is Moroccan, it should be good, but it is a little early, we hang
out first in Kuala Lumpur.
As we settle in the restaurant, I received a phone call from my father. My grandmother just passed away. I'm in shock, I should meet her in 10 days, and she was very happy to meet me again. We
will not eat the couscous ...
The next morning I go to the Chinese Embassy for my visa. I have a meeting of Couchsurfing Nomadic Ambassadors in Shanghai July 22, we will also see the eclipse of the sun, it seems that one of
the longest in the history, more than 6 minutes and 30 seconds. I will also spend a month there and visit a little piece of this huge country. If all goes well I should take a plane back from
Macau, it is cheaper, and I wonder if I will not spend 1 week in Yangshuo, I have a proposal for volunteering in a school, to give English courses. It seems that this region is very
beautiful.
We spend the day in one of these huge shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur, KLCC, under Petronas Towers, until the sister of Day Yann finish her job to drive us back home.
The end of the week will be more interesting. Wednesday, we meet other photographers from CouchSurfing to shoot some snaps in the streets of the capital.
And Thursday, I get my Chinese visa, if they deign to give it to me, I read that there were problems between France and China again... The Mayor of Paris would make the Dalai Lama honorary
citizen of the city of Paris, without his HDL asked anything, and of course, the Chinese government is angry again against france.

Maintenant, je suis motard à Penang. Une gentille membre de couchsurfing me prete la moto de son mari dont il ne se sert plus depuis longtemps, mais ils souhaitaient la garder, comme c’était un cadeau.
Elle l’a fait réparer, je l’ai nettoyé, et elle marche a merveille.
C’est une Honda C70, elle a plus de 20 ans, et roule comme si elle était neuve.
Pour se déplacer en ville, c’est une merveille. Il faut juste avoir une bonne protection contre la pluie, car ici, il peut se mettre à pleuvoir très fort en un rien de temps.
A biker in Penang.
Now I am a Penang biker. A kind member of Couchsurfing lends me her husband’s bike. He does
not use it anymore, but they kept it for years as it was a gift to him.
It was repaired, I cleaned, and it works perfectly.
It is a Honda C70, it has more than 20 years old, working as if it was new.
To get around town is wonderful. You just need to have a good protection against rain, because
here, it may start to rain very hard in no time.
L’Ais Kacang est un dessert servit ici, en Malaisie, mais aussi a Singapour.
C’est mon dessert préféré ici.
Il est aussi appelé ABC, pour Air Batu Campur en Malay. Air (prononcez A-ir) veut dire eau, Batu est une pierre, donc Air Batu, de la glace pilée, et Campur, mélange. Ais Kacang (prononcez A-isse Kachang), veut dire haricots glacés (ais : glace, Kacang : haricots).

L’ABC est sucré, mais pas trop, on y trouve de la glace gratée, bien sur, des haricots rouges (ici on mange les haricots sucrés et non salés, ils entrent dans la composition de nombreux desserts), du mais, de la gelée, des sirops, pour la couleur, et, suivant la personne qui le fait, on peut le personnaliser avec des fruits, ou avec une boule de glace. On peut aussi y trouver des Attap Chee (graines de palmiers, c’est blanc transparent, c’est très beau), mais tout cela est nouveau, à l’ origine, il n’y avait que la glace et les haricots rouges.

Suivant l’endroit ou vous l’achetez, tous ne se ressemblent pas, et les prix sont aussi différents. Comptez entre 1,5 et 3,5 Ringgits.

1 heaped tablespoon red beans, boiled until soft
1 heaped tablespoon sweet corn kernels
1 heaped tablespoon finely diced flavored gelatin or jelly
1 heaped tablespoon chopped peanuts
1 teaspoon chopped preserved nutmeg fruits
Large bowl of shaved ice
1 tablespoon palm sugar syrup
1 tablespoon red cordial or colored sugar syrup
2 tablespoon evaporated milk
Measure the beans, corn, jelly, cendol, peanuts and nutmeg fruits into a bowl. Top with a cone if shaved ice, then pour over the palm sugar syrup, cordial and milk. Serve immediately. A delicious
way to beat the heat, Ais Kacang is a mound of shaved ice piled onto a mixture of gelatin, red beans and sweet corn. Add a dollop of brightly colored syrup and a generous splash of evaporated
milk and it's a treat that not only the children will enjoy.The ice should be very finely shaved for this dish; try processing it in a food processor or the blender. Make palm sugar syrup by simmering ½ tablespoon chopped palm sugar in 2 tablespoon chopped palm sugar in 2 tablespoon water until liquid is
reduced by half.

Aic Kacang or ABC
The Ais Kacang is a dessert served here in Malaysia and also in Singapore.
This is my favorite dessert here.
It is also known as ABC, for Air Batu Campur in Malay language. Air (pronounced A-ir) means water, Batu
is stone, so Air Batu, is the crushed ice and Campur is mixture. Ais Kacang (pronounce A-isse Kachang), means iced beans (ais: Ice, Kacang beans).
The ABC is sweet but not too much. There is ice, of course, red beans (here we eat
beans in sweet flavor, not with salted. Suprisingly, they are the main component in many desserts of this region), corn, jelly and syrups, for colors, and, depending on the person who does it, it
can be customized with fruit, or with
a ball of ice-cream. You can also find Attap Chee (seeds of palm trees, they are transparent white, and taste good), but it is a new variation. In the original recipe, there was only ice and
red beans.
Depending where you buy them, they can be quite different, and prices are also different. They usually cost between 1.5 to 3.5 Ringgits.
